Jets report card

OFFENSE

Mark Sanchez played a sound game, completing 17 of 30 passes for 257 yards, 2 TDs and a late INT. He hit TE Dustin Keller (6-63) on a 9-yard TD and connected with WR Braylon Edwards (2-100) on an 80-yard TD. WR Jerricho Cotchery (5-102) made clutch catch after clutch catch.

But the Jets had trouble running the ball, failing at what they do best. RB Thomas Jones had just 42 yards on 16 carries and Shonn Greene ran for 41 yards on 10 carries before he was hurt. C

DEFENSE

The Jets couldn’t get Peyton Manning (26 of 39, 377 yards, 3 TDs) off the field in the second half. CB Darrelle Revis did a good job on Reggie Wayne (3-55), and the Jets didn’t let TE Dallas Clark (4-35, 1 TD) hurt them badly. But they had miscommunications in the secondary on two TDs and allowed WRs Pierre Garcon (11-151, 1 TD) and Austin Collie (7-123, 1 TD) to kill them. D

SPECIAL TEAMS

This figured to be a Jets edge and it didn’t really turn out to be. Jay Feely missed FGs of 44 and 52 yards, but made a 48-yarder. Colts KO returner Chad Simpson averaged 27.7 yards on three returns. Brad Smith averaged 27.8 yards on KOs but didn’t make a big play. P Steve Weatherford averaged a 51-yard gross and a 45-yard net. With the Jets not making an impact play here, this was a standoff. C

COACHING

Rex Ryan had his players stoked, as evidenced by the fast start (a 17-6 lead). But in the end, the defense, ranked No. 1 against the pass all season, failed them — particularly on the back end, where they’d been strongest. C
