Foiling the fool-harmonic

The New York Philharmonic’s global “commie tour” has hit a snag: The or chestra had to cancel its jaunt to Cuba after the Treasury Department said its wealthy backers couldn’t come along.

Pity those poor rich (hypocritical) capitalists — and their (misguided) musical wards. Without the $10,000 each of the 150 donors was shelling out for a weekend in Fidel and Raul Castro’s “workers’ paradise,” the orchestra couldn’t pay for the trip — so it scrapped it.

Heartbreaking, no?

Actually, Treasury deserves praise.

When last heard from, the Philharmonic was playing court minstrel for North Korean madman Kim Jong-il — while his people starved. It’s doubtful the political prisoners in the Castros’ jails would’ve gotten to enjoy the show either.

Plus, as Treasury noted, there’s a big difference between allowing a limited cultural exchange and turning scores of wealthy tourists loose on Havana — in violation of US trade and travel bans.

Still, it’s not like the fun’s completely ruined: The Philharmonic is slated to play Communist Vietnam this weekend.

Talk about tone deaf.
