JULIET OF THE SPIRITS (1965)

Sunday, 3:15 a.m., TCM

Personal fave Fellini flick for its mix of gorgeousness and insanity. Giulietta Masina is a 40-something scared-sexless wife who fears her husband is cheating. A psychic tells her she needs to get involved in the sex trade, so her hooker neighbor (Sandra Milo) helps her become erotically liberated. Sex and visions like you’ve never seen ensue.

GROSSE POINTE BLANK (1997)

Tuesday, 3 a.m., TBS

John Cusack’s very funny as a hit man who attends his high school reunion because he happens to have a “job” in town anyway. Hot on his tail are a couple of federal agents, another hit man assigned to kill him and a third hit man who wants him to join the professional killer’s union. With Minnie Driver (“The Riches”) as the love interest.

AMERICAN GANGSTER (2007)

Friday, 9 p.m., TNT

Denzel Washington is just great as notorious real-life drug kingpin Frank Lucas, who, without benefit of education, managed to develop a heroin empire by applying business techniques, partnering with the Mafia, and staying under the radar. Russell Crowe is equally wonderful as Richie Roberts, the detective who battled police corruption to bring Lucas down. Co-starring Ruby Dee.

JUDGMENT AT NUREMBERG (1961)

Saturday, 8 p.m., TCM

Two Oscars (Maximilian Schell for Best Actor, and Abby Mann for Best Screenplay) as well as nine other noms went to this all-star vehicle about the tribunal in 1948 of four Nazi judges accused of participating in the Nazi program of genocide. The cast includes Spencer Tracy, Burt Lancaster, Marlene Dietrich, and yes, Judy Garland. William Shatner fans will spot him taking Garland’s oath on the stand.
