Bus substitutes are van-tastic

The city plans to replace some bus routes cut by the MTA with 20-seat livery-van service that would cost about $2.

Though extremely short on specifics, Mayor Bloomberg said yesterday that the vans would run three to six routes — which will be decided in several weeks — in areas of Queens, Brooklyn and The Bronx.

He made the announcement in Fresh Meadows, Queens, which is losing the Q74 route starting Monday.

The majority of the MTA’s “doomsday” service cuts will go into effect on Sunday and Monday.
