NYC man charged in upstate teen’s shooting death

SCHENECTADY, N.Y.— Police say they’ve charged a Brooklyn man in last month’s killing of a 15-year-old boy at a house party in Schenectady.

Schenectady Police Commissioner Wayne Bennett says Monday that 31-year-old James Wells was arrested Sunday evening in Brooklyn and brought back upstate for arraignment on a second-degree murder charge.

Authorities say Eddie Stanley, a standout on the Schenectady High School varsity basketball team, was shot early on the morning of June 12. Witnesses say the teen was helping a disc jockey at the party when a fight broke out.

Bennett says witnesses led investigators to Wells. Police say they’re looking for others involved in the shooting.

Wells is being held in the county jail without bail. It couldn’t immediately be determined if he has a lawyer.
