Obama: Health-care law modeled after Mitt Romney’s plan

With his signature health-care law under fire, President Obama flew to Boston Wednesday in an effort to remind the public that ObamaCare is modeled on the plan of his former GOP opponent and Massachusetts governor, Mitt Romney.

“Your law was the model for the nation’s law,” Obama told supporters in Faneuil Hall on Wednesday.

“Health-care reform in this state was a success. That doesn’t mean it was perfect right away. There were early problems to solve. There were changes that had to be made.”

Recalling the birth of RomneyCare, Obama said, “Enrollment was extremely slow. Within a month, only about 100 people had signed up.”

But by the end of its first year, thousands had, he said.

Turning to his own law, Obama said, “Right now, the Web site is too slow, too many people have gotten stuck, and I am not happy about it. There’s no excuse for it. And I take full responsibility for making sure it gets fixed ASAP.”

He pledged, “We are just going to keep on working on it. We’re going to grind it out.”

Earlier Wednesday, Obama met with basketball legend Bill Russell to get an advanced look at a statue of the former Boston Celtic being unveiled at Boston City Hall.
