Las Vegas oddsmaker sees Super Bowl line falling

The line for Super Bowl XLVII is seeing more drops than Wes Welker.

The Post’s line already has dipped from the 49ers being favored by five points to four points. And Jay Kornegay, VP of racing sports book operations at the Las Vegas Hilton Sportsbook, yesterday said ultimately the spread may go down to 3 1/2.

“We’re still currently at four. And I’ve got to say, in the early going, obviously this is very early, I would say about two-thirds of the money [since we’ve been at 4] has been on the Ravens,” Kornegay said. “That’s a small sample, but it’s certainly an indicator that it could drop even further.”

Kornegay said his line opened with the 49ers being favored by 4 1/2 points but moved to 4 due to several factors.

“When we were debating on our opening line it was a decision between -3 1/2 or -4,” he said. “We decided to go with -4, but simultaneously we noticed some posted -5 1/2. At that point we posted -4 1/2 since that was the low end of the market. As some lines dropped, we decided to move our line down to -4 without too much wagered on it since our original number was lower.”

Kornegay also said the over/under has dropped from an opening 49 to 48 and is now at 47 1/2 (The Post’s line remains at 49). This is partly due to the defensive reputations for both the 49ers and Ravens.

“Even though we’re getting under money right now, I fully anticipate that we’ll get over money as we get closer to the game,” Kornegay said.

According to Kornegay, the overall sum wagered for this year’s Super Bowl projects to be more than $90 million. Last year’s was $93.9 million, while the record is $94.5 million (Steelers-Seahawks in 2006).

The early lines for Super Bowl XLVIII are also out, according to Kornegay. The Patriots are the favorites at 6-1, followed by the 49ers and Broncos at 8-1 and the Packers at 10-1.

Interestingly, the Ravens are only 10th at 14-1. The Giants come in at 20-1 and the Jets at 50-1.
