Firefighters battle four-alarm blaze in Williamsburg

Firefighters battled a massive four-alarm blaze in Williamsburg this afternoon, authorities said.

The fire began about 2:40 p.m. in a bank and cafe on Bedford Avenue near N 8th Street about 2:40 p.m.., according to an FDNY spokesman.

It took almost 170 firefighters to extinguish the flames in the cockloft of Ella Cafe and Cross County Savings Bank about 3:25 p.m. The windows in the bank were blown out during the blaze.

Two of the Bravest were injured by debris, and were taken in stable condition to New York Presbyterian Hospital.

Two civilians were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, authorities said.
