Credit card $hocker

Check this out: Starting today, anyone shopping in New Jersey should take a close look at their bills — as businesses are now allowed to charge up to 4 percent for credit-card purchases.

Businesses have long been hit with a fee for such transactions, and the law now lets them pass the cost on to customers.

It’s unclear whether any stores plan to take advantage of the opportunity.

None of the businesses asked by The Post said they would charge the fee right away.

The bill, introduced at the end of last year in the New Jersey state Senate, also allows gas stations to add the charge for credit- card purchases.

New York and Connecticut consumers are still safe. “Checkout” surcharges remain banned in both states.
