Ex-Devils star Arnott en route to Rangers

Jason Arnott has had some good times in and around New York City, and now he is on his way back.

The former Devils star signed a one-year deal with the Rangers yesterday for a pro-rated $1.6 million pending a physical today, a league source confirmed.

Now 38 years old, Arnott played last season with the Blues and had 17 goals and 34 points in 72 games.

Arnott had inquires from three Western Conference teams before training camps started, and within the past 48 hours had two offers put on the table from Eastern Conference teams, one being the Rangers.

He played for the Devils from 1997-2001, and scored the Stanley Cup-winning goal with them in 2000, a double-overtime score that beat the Stars in Game 6. The deal will leave the Rangers approximately $1.5 million in cap space.

This will be the seventh NHL team Arnott has played for in his 20-year career.
