This week’s couple: Old friends

When Khendra, a 27-year-old sales ops coordinator, met Everic, a 24-year-old account executive, for dinner at the posh Peruvian spot Raymi, in the Flatiron District, the tiny three-year difference in their ages felt like a big divide. Were there tremors of young love or did things get old quickly?

He said:

When I arrived, Khendra was already there and she definitely looked pretty. I first noticed her nice eyes and pretty smile.

I also enjoyed Khendra’s sense of humor. We had similarities, like a love for sports, but the fact she’s older made it difficult to connect. I’m still somewhat starry-eyed, while she is a bit more grounded.

The service and meal at Raymi was great, especially dessert: rice pudding. I got the corn empanadas for an appetizer, as did Khendra, so we had a running joke throughout dinner that she copied all of my orders.

Khendra’s a catch. We had a good laugh, but throughout the date, I wondered, “Is she not my type?” When we left, I got my answer: She didn’t offer to see me again. I asked for her number anyway, and we went on our merry ways.

She said:

When Everic showed up, I noticed he is easy on the eye — nice teeth, well-dressed. And he seems pretty cool.

Everic noticed the age difference when we talked about how we socialize. Our three-year age difference probably did have an effect on our chemistry, but there were qualities to Everic I liked: He’s an intellectual, has a lot of goals, and wasn’t trying to be Mr. Suave.

Raymi was cozy, and the service was awesome. The drinks and food were delicious, even though Everic ate half my dessert.

We had a good time and I gave Everic my number, but he’s more of a friend.
