Hit the puppy slopes!

Stowe Mountain Lodge

At this ski-in-ski-out lodge, your pooch can not only accompany you off-leash (no leash laws!) snowshoeing Vermont’s highest peak, he can also join in the aprés-ski fun and cozy up around the fire in the lobby while you sip a hot toddy. Dogs are also provided with their own beds and all-natural treats.

Rooms from $399, plus $75 pet fee per stay; 7412 Mountain Road; Stowe, Vt.; 802-253-3560

Paw House Inn

“We are not dog friendly, we are dog-centric,’’ declares Mitch Frankenberg, owner of the historic 1786 farmhouse and ski retreat. “Our goal is to make sure your dog has more fun than you do.’’ To this end, his inn has an indoor dog run filled with toys and an on-site dog park with an agility course. The staff will take your dogs out to play while you ski, or, if you prefer, you can take Fido with you snow-shoeing or cross-country skiing across the property’s huge meadow. There’s no fee to bring your dog, but those who don’t bring their pooch have to pay an extra $10.

Rooms from $145, no pet fee; 1376 Clarendon Ave., West Rutland, Vt.; 866-729-4687

Lake Placid Lodge

Dogs have their own four-legged concierge in the form of Maggie, the hotel’s golden retriever, who is such an integral part of the lodge that its pub is named after her. “Maggie befriends dogs staying here and leads both the dogs and guests on hikes on the nearby trails and escorts them to their rooms or cabins upon arrival,” says Vanessa Valenti, the sales and marketing manager. With 2,000 miles of neighboring trails to explore, your dog (and you) will need Maggie’s guidance. The resort’s pastry chef cooks up bacon dog treats, and dog beds, crates, water bowls and balls are also provided.

Rooms from $450, plus $75 per night pet fee; 144 Lodge Way, Lake Placid, NY; 518-523-2700

Mountain Top Inn & Resort

When you book a cabin here, the reservationist asks for your pup’s name along with your own, so that when you arrive, they can greet the whole family personally. “Everyone on the staff loves dogs,” enthuses the front desk’s Teagan Cayer. In addition to the warm service, pups can enjoy homemade organic Vermont maple dog treats, loads of dog-friendly mountain trails and a nearby reservoir with a beach front. “Lots of people snowshoe down there with their dogs,” says Cayer.

The Inn at Pocono Manor

At this sprawling resort, a welcome bag filled with tug-of-war toys, edible rawhide, balls, treats and a copy of Fido magazine greets every canine guest. Better yet, there are 3,000 private acres for pets to roam off-leash, though they must be leashed-up in the hotel and resort facilities.
