Fog pushes Farmers’ finale to Monday

LA JOLLA, Calif. — Yesterday’s third round of the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines was suspended because of fog until today, meaning the tournament is headed for a Monday finish.

Third-round play will resume at 7 a.m. and continue into the beginning of the final round until dark. Barring any further weather delays, PGA Tour officials estimate there will be between 10 and 12 holes remaining from the final round to complete tomorrow.

Tiger Woods leads the tournament at 11-under par, trailed by Billy Horschel (9-under) and six golfers at 8-under par, including Erik Compton, who has had two heart transplants, Steve Marino and Casey Wittenberg.

Play was delayed three hours Saturday before it began for a short time with just two groups playing one hole before the fog shut down play for the day. There is more rain and possible fog in the forecast for today, but tomorrow is expected to be clear.

“We will play 72 holes,’’ PGA Tour rules official Mark Russell said.
