Even the seals want out of third polar vortex snap

Get me back to warmer waters — like in the Arctic Circle!

This 3-foot seal seemed to be pleading for an end to the polar vortex on Tuesday morning as he hitched a ride on an ice floe in the East River — headed north.

Jason Gregory, 33, was out working on a boat, when he spotted the seal at about 10:30 a.m. around East 20th Street. Hours later, at 3 p.m., the seal was sighted around 110th Street. “It is rare to see a seal that high up in the East River,” Gregory said.

There’s good news for man and sealkind, despite Tuesday night’s 14-degree chiller.

“Those numbers will be a thing of the past. The trend is warming,” said AccuWeather meteorologist Steve Travis.

After an expected low of about 13 degrees on Wednesday night, more seasonable weather is headed to New York.

Thursday will be around 32, Friday close to 40 and Saturday will be in the mid-40s, forecasters say.

Super Bowl Sunday should see a chance or rain or snow with a high of 39, but clearing and falling to 32 by kickoff.
