NBC moves Emmy Awards to Monday

NBC is moving the 2014 Emmy Awards to a Monday, announcing the 66th annual ceremony will air Aug. 25 from 8 to 11 p.m. It’s the first time since 1976 TV’s biggest night has aired on a Monday.

The shift is being made in order to avoid conflicting with the start of the NFL season and NBC’s popular “Sunday Night Football” franchise while still having the Primetime Emmys occur a week after the Creative Arts Emmys (Aug. 16).

NBC previously aired the Emmys in August in 2010 and 2006; all other ceremonies since 2002 on ABC, CBS and Fox have aired in September to mark the start of the fall TV season.

A host for the show has yet to be announced.
