The accused shake-down stalker of Yankees GM Brian Cashman is calling herself a battered woman in hopes of beating the most serious charge against her — for allegedly lying to get a below-market deal on her TriBeCa apartment.
In new court papers filed today in Manhattan Supreme Court, curvy blonde Louise Neathway, 36, says she feared having any possible contact with her violent ex-husband, Jason Bump, of Renssalaer County, who has sole custody of their 15-year-old daughter.
It’s unclear how Neathway would convince a jury that this led her to lie ten years later on state Liberty Bond program paperwork that Bump was a resident of the UK, and that she alone supported her daughter, so as to allegedly steal more than $50,000 in housing breaks on her Leonard Street apartment.
“The defendant feared having any possible contact with Jason Bump, and also feared mentioning Jason Bump’s name to any third party,” defense lawyer Lawrence LaBrew wrote in today’s filing, which seeks permission to present evidence of Neathway’s “Post Traumatic Stress Disorder” when the apartment larceny case goes to trial in June.
Assistant district attorney Kenn Kern told Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Daniel FitzGerald today that he will file a response challenging Neathway’s attempt to use the “PTSD” defense. Neathway’s charges in the alleged Cashman extortion — in which she allegedly threatened to ruin the GM’s career and marriage if he didn’t father a child with her and pay her $18,000 — will be tried separately after the apartment fraud trial concludes.
