Service to South Ferry subway stop to resume on Thursday for first time since Hurricane Sandy

Service on the 1 train will resume to South Ferry tomorrow, the MTA says.

South Ferry’s subway stop, which opened in 2009 at a cost of $500 million, was badly damaged by Hurricane Sandy.

So while repair work is under way, the MTA is reopening the old South Ferry “loop” station.

Service to the old loop station will resume at 5 a.m., in time for the morning rush.

Only the first five cars of 1 trains will stop at the loop station’s platform, which is shorter than the platforms on other 1 train stops.

Repairs to the new South Ferry station are expected to take two to three years, and cost around $600 million.
