The 10 biggest celebrity beauty transformations of 2013

Any way you cut it, 2013 was the year of hair: Dye jobs, bobs, bangs and the triumph of the pixie cut proved that a new ’do can spark more tweets than a twerk. Makeup also played its part (along with plastic surgery), and overall, stars stuck to the adage “Less is more” to make the most of their famous faces. Check out the most dramatic beauty transformations of 2013.

Beyoncé dropped an Internet bomb back in August when she Instagrammed pictures of a honey-colored pixie cut. The hashtag #BeyHairHeadlines yielded plenty of gems (“If you liked it then you shoulda put a wig on it.”) before the megastar stepped out with a chin-length bob just a few days later.

Jennifer Aniston

Aniston, mother of “The Rachel” cut that plagued ’90s hair salons worldwide, has kept her look pretty consistent in this millennium (always safe, sandy brown and shoulder-length), which is why the actress made waves in November when she chopped her tresses into an angular bob.

The star of “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” took heat when she sliced her beauty queen-quality locks in the middle of a major promo circuit — the p.r. equivalent of Russian roulette. Love it or hate it, it was a bold move, and rest assured that the Katniss braid will be back for the franchise’s third installment, “Mockingjay.”

Kate Middleton

To cover ashy roots just a few weeks back, Middleton dyed her tidy tresses in a rich brown hue that’s at least five or six shades darker than her natural color. Fans of the royal family were more than pleased — and as countless blog posts proved, when the Duchess of Cambridge so much as flips her hair, it’s breaking news.

Kim Kardashian

The most famous Kardashian has accomplished many things this year, including but not limited to losing the baby weight in just six months, stepping up her coat game and successfully transitioning to blond. The caramel ombre she showed for Paris Fashion Week in October went over fairly well, but to ensure maximum fun, she channeled her inner Barbie by going blond a week later.

Lady Gaga

An obsession with Botticelli’s foam-cleansed Venus inspired a big make-under for the former wearer of meat dresses. Gaga now opts for natural-colored wigs and less makeup, but don’t get too comfortable — the “Applause” singer lives for shockers, so expect any number of dramatic beauty statements in the near future.

Pamela Anderson

The Gen-X-era bombshell made a very grown-up decision in October when she traded in her signature pin-up-girl mane for a chic pixie cut a la Charlize Theron.

Renée Zellweger

The jury’s still out on whether she’s had any work done, but last month at Armani’s “One Night Only” event in NYC, Zellweger stepped out with wide eyes and a stiff forehead, looking quite unlike the round-faced, squinty-eyed sweetheart we know and love.

Shailene Woodley

She shaved her head in August to play a cancer-stricken teen in the upcoming film adaptation of “The Fault in Our Stars.” It’s a great look for the budding actress and proves that when you’re on the edge of stardom, opt for a pixie cut — it also worked well for Emma Watson.

Zooey Deschanel

Actress, singer and songwriter Deschanel is known for her signature bangs — which is why, when she swept them up for this year’s Met Gala, she was totally unrecognizable, (nearly) prompting an Internet crash and a search warrant for the real Zooey Deschanel.
