A dapper Leonardo DiCaprio led a Hollywood invasion of Lincoln Center last night for an all-star premiere of “The Great Gatsby.”

DiCaprio, who plays the title role, wore a dark suit as he posed on the black — not red — carpet outside Avery Fisher Hall.

He drew cheers from the crowd, as did co-star Carey Mulligan, who was striking in red with her hair swept up, while a radiant Isla Fisher turned heads in a flower print dress.

Among the other celebrities who were spotted were Jay-Z, who performs on the soundtrack, Martha Stewart, Anna Wintour and Nina Dobrev.

Many of the VIP women guests were dressed in 1920s-style dresses, some with beaded and feathered headbands.

The 3-D adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 classic novel has been expected for months to be one of the year’s blockbusters and bring a retro look back in fashion.

Aside from DiCaprio in the title role, the movie’s stars include Tobey Maguire as Gatsby’s friend and neighbor Nick Carraway and Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan, Gatsby’s love interest.

But judging from crowd interest last night, the movie’s big attraction is Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan. Fans of the veteran Indian actor stood on the fountain in Lincoln Center’s plaza with signs, screaming and chanting his name.

In the run-up to the premiere, Mulligan described how she won her part in the “craziest audition” she’d ever done.

“It was in a loft somewhere in New York” where she was surrounded by cameramen. “I was like, ‘Why am I here?’ It was really scary,” she said.

“We spent about an hour and a half together auditioning [with DiCaprio], and I walked out thinking, ‘If nothing else ever happens, I’ve acted with Leonardo DiCaprio.’ ”

The film hits general release next week and is scheduled to open the Cannes Film Festival later this month.
