BBC’s ‘Atlantis’ to re-surface

BBC America has picked up a second season of “Atlantis” — after airing just one episode of the series.

The fantasy drama was the highest-rated series premiere ever for the network’s “Supernatural Saturday” programming block, pulling in 838,000 viewers on Nov. 23 — the same day as BBC America’s record-breaking “Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor” anniversary special, which reeled in a record 2.4 million viewers.

“Atlantis” follows the adventures of Jason (Jack Donnelly), Hercules (Mark Addy) and Pythagoras (Robert Emms) as they battle some of the most famous names of Greek legend in the lost city of Atlantis.

The series also airs in the UK, where it is the biggest new Saturday- night drama to launch across all BBC channels since 2006. “ ‘Atlantis’ is off to a fantastic start and is the centerpiece of our Saturday nights for the next twelve weeks,” Richard De Croce, senior VP of programming for BBC America, said in a statement.

“We’re committed to bringing our viewers even more entertaining episodes inspired by Greek mythology from Howard and the talented team in season two.”

“Atlantis”also stars Jemima Rooper as Medusa; Aiysha Hart as Ariadne; Sarah Parish (“Hatfields & McCoys”) as Pasiphae; and Juliet Stevenson (“The Hour”) as The Oracle.

They are all scheduled to return for Season Two.
