Power plays

3 STARS

1. Daniel Paille

While his teammates were celebrating and the Rangers defensemen were stationary, the speedy fourth-liner never stopped. He darted from behind the net to get to the rebound of teammate Shawn Thornton’s shot that had nearly crossed the goal line and slipped it past Henrik Lundqvist for the go-ahead goal with just 3:31 remaining.

2. Johnny Boychuk

The defenseman’s long, rising wrist shot through traffic broke through Lundqvist 3:10 into the third period, pulling Boston even and giving the Bruins the impetus to plow ahead for the game-winner later in the stanza.

3. Henrik Lundqvist

The King backed up his worst performance of the playoffs in Game 2 with one of his best. He was brilliant in making 32 saves, including two on first-periods breakaways, but just didn’t have enough help from the rest of the Blueshirts to make the stops stand up.

KEY MOMENT

Believe it or not, the pivotal point was the Rangers’ only goal: Taylor Pyatt’s redirect of Ryan McDonagh’s long wrist shot 3:53 into the second period. Because from that point onwards, the Rangers were a different team, managing just 10 shots on goal.
