Halo set to become TV series

Halo, the spectacularly popular video game series, is being made into a TV series by director Steven Spielberg.

Although a TV or movie version of Halo had been long-rumored, the announcement yesterday sent the game’s fans into fits of joy.

“I’m crying with joy,” tweeted Cory Popson ”@Gamerman309, at the news. “Thank you. I cant say how happy this makes me.”

No word on when the show will be aired, but it is believed it could be ready by year’s end.

Halo, which has grossed more than $3.5 billion in game sales since it was introduced 12 years ago, is based on an arcane and complicated sci-fi story about a war between humans and religiously fanatical group of space aliens, all set in the 26th Century.

The show will air first on XBox — the video-games console that made the game popular — before airing on an unnamed TV network, according to reports.

There have been four versions of Halo released since it was first introduced with the XBox in 2001. Each new edition has outsold the previous one as the game’s popularity snowballed.

Fans yesterday said that they’d expected a movie of Halo would come first, following reports that “Lord of the Rings” director Peter Jackson was going to do it.

But the news that the Spielberg would be doing the series for TV was welcome on social media sites that erupted yesterday morning when the announcement was made.
