NFL: Santa Clara awarded 2016 Super Bowl

Team owners meeting yesterday in Boston named the 49ers’ new stadium as host of the 50th Super Bowl in 2016. That facility in Santa Clara, Calif., is due to open for the 2014 season. Houston was awarded the Super Bowl in 2017. Miami was beat out in both bids.

Tony Romo will miss at least three weeks of offseason workouts after a procedure to remove a cyst from his back. The Cowboys said their quarterback will be ready for training camp in July.

Charles Woodson, the defensive back who played the last seven seasons with the Packers, signed a one-year deal with the Raiders, the team that drafted him in 1998. … Cliff Harris, the former Jets cornerback, will face trial in Hillsboro, Ore., on a domestic harassment charge.

HOOPS: Del Negro out as Clippers coach

The Clippers parted ways with head coach Vinny Del Negro, who was not offered a new contract. He compiled a 128-102 record with the Clippers in three seasons, guiding them to the playoffs in 2012 and 2013.

Bobcats owner Michael Jordan said he is changing his team’s name to the Charlotte Hornets for the 2014-15 season. The NBA board of governors must OK the name change in July. The New Orleans Hornets, who played in Charlotte from 1988 to 2002, recently changed their name to the Pelicans.

The Raptors said Bryan Colangelo’s contract as team president is being extended, but he no longer will be general manager. … Authorities in San Antonio are investigating a 911 emergency call threatening Spurs point guard Tony Parker during Sunday’s playoff game.

Pitt, Stanford, Houston and Texas Tech will play in the championship round of the Legends Classic at Barclays Center from Nov. 17-21. The entire bracket for the tournament has yet to be announced.

ETC.: Sharks beat Kings, knot series at 2-2

Brent Burns helped San Jose jump off to a fast start with his second goal of the postseason and the Sharks tied their second-round series against the Kings at two games with a 2-1 victory in Game 4. Game 5 is tomorrow night in Los Angeles.

In Cbicago, Jose Quintana took a no-hitter into the seventh before David Ortiz broke it up with a one-out, broken-bat single as the White Sox beat the Red Sox 3-1. … Mike Trout hit for the cycle and drove in five runs in the Angels’ 12-0 win over the Mariners.

Guan Tianlang, the 14-year-old Chinese amateur who made the cut at the Masters, has withdrawn from a U.S. Open qualifier on June 3 in Dallas.
