MLB: Mauer ends Anibal no-no

In Detroit, Anibal Sanchez took a no-hitter into the ninth inning before the Twins’ Joe Mauer broke it up with a clean, one-out single up the middle, the only hit the Tigers right-hander allowed in a 6-0 victory last night.

Don Mattingly isn’t in immediate danger of being fired as manager of the last-place Dodgers, team president Stan Kasten said.

GOLF: Kuchar atop Colonial

In Fort Worth, Texas, Matt Kuchar was 10-under par on the 16th green when the second round of the Colonial was suspended because of an impending storm. Kuchar had a one-stroke lead over Graham DeLaet. First-round leader Ryan Palmer was still at 8 under through 12 holes.

In St. Louis, Russ Cochran and Kenny Perry each shot 5-under 66 to share the second round lead in the Senior PGA Championship.

In Paradise Island, Bahamas, Heather Bowie Young birdied half of the 12 holes set up for a 6-under 39 and a shot lead the Bahamas LPGA Classic.

In Athens, Ga., Annie Park, a USC freshman from Levittown, won the NCAA women’s individual title.
