This year’s NYC Marathon ‘most secure’ in race history

Sunday’s New York City Marathon will probably be the most tightly guarded in the race’s 43-year history, in the wake of April’s Boston Marathon bombing.

The five-borough route will be patrolled by counterterrorism and plainclothes cops, said NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly.

Some 45,000 runners will start at the Verrazano Bridge at 9 a.m. Channel 7 and ESPN2 will telecast the race. The race was canceled last year because of Hurricane Sandy. Among this year’s competitors are Pamela Anderson, Christy Turlington and restaurateur Joe Bastianich.
