Shel-loving gov’s sex crackdown

ALBANY — Gov. Cuomo proposed a crackdown on sexual misconduct in the workplace as part of his 10-point “women’s equality agenda” yesterday — even as he continued to support Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver in the wake of the Vito Lopez sex-harassment scandal.

“We’re saying we want legal rights for victims of sexual harassment. It’s totally different than a political decision on who the speaker of the Assembly is,” said the governor (left).

A state investigative report last month slammed Silver for failing to report initial harassment complaints filed against former Assemblyman Lopez to the Ethics Committee.

Cuomo was forced to explain his rational while surrounded by women’s groups who sat awkwardly silent when asked about Silver.

“We’re here to talk about the Women’s Equality Act,” said Christine Sadowski of the Orange County YWCA. Cuomo’s plan requires that all private firms be subject to anti-sex-harassment laws.

Cuomo also unveiled the language of his bill to strengthen abortion rights, which he claimed is needed in case the US Supreme Court overturns Roe vs. Wade.

But state Senate Republican leader Dean Skelos vowed to block it.

“I won’t consent to that coming to the floor,” Skelos told The Post.
