Ravens’ Ray Rice and fiancée arrested after altercation

Ravens running back Ray Rice is free on his own recognizance after both he and his fiancée were arrested Friday night in Atlantic City for assaulting each other at Revel Casino.

Atlantic City police confirmed Sunday night Rice, 27, and fiancee Janay Palmer, 26, had each been charged with simple assault-domestic violence for striking each other with their hands.

Rice, a New Rochelle native, and Palmer each refused medical attention and no injuries were reported, according to the police. They each were released with a summons to appear in court at a later date.

The Ravens released a statement Sunday night confirming the incident.

“We are aware of the Friday night situation with Ray Rice and his fiancée,” team spokesman Chad Steele said. “We have spoken with Ray and know that they returned home together after being detained.”

Michael Diamondstein, a Philadelphia-based attorney, was hired to represent Rice.

“There was an argument that included Ray,” Diamondstein told the Baltimore Sun before the police report had been released. “I can’t give any specifics because we haven’t seen the document yet. Once we’re able to go through the evidence, it should wind up to be little more than a misunderstanding.”

Rice, a three-time Pro Bowl pick, is coming off his worst season as a pro. The 27-year-old former second-round pick rushed for just 660 yards and four touchdowns as the Ravens missed the playoffs the year after winning the Super Bowl.
