HOOPS: Collins marches in gay pride parade

Jason Collins marched in Boston’s gay pride parade yesterday with Massachusetts Congressman Joe Kennedy III, his onetime roommate at Stanford. Collins, the ex-Net, wore a T-shirt that read “#BeTrue” when he joined thousands of marchers.

In April, Collins became the first active player in one of the four major U.S. pro sports leagues to come out as gay.

The Liberty, who will play host to the Atlanta Dream today at Prudential Center (3 p.m. MSG Plus), will do it without Essence Carson. The guard suffered a significant knee injury during Friday’s night loss at Atlanta, according to coach Bill Laimbeer, and may be lost for the season.

MLB: Buchholz goes to 9-0 as Red Sox split

David Ortiz rebounded from a rough first game with a long two-run homer and drove in three runs to help Clay Buchholz improve to 9-0, earning the Red Sox a split of a day-night doubleheader with a 7-2 win over the Angels. Los Angeles won the first game, 9-5.

In Toronto, Rajai Davis’ single drove in the winning run in the 18th inning as the Blue Jays beat the Rangers 4-3 in a game that matched the longest in club history for both teams. The game lasted 5 hours, 28 minutes. .

GOLF: Pressel has two-shot LPGA lead

Overcoming rain and a muddy course, Morgan Pressel shot a 2-under 70 to take a two-shot over Inbee Park(68) and Chella Choi (73)after two rounds of the LPGA Championship in Pittsford, N.Y. … In Memphis, Tenn., rookie Shawn Stefani overcame a quadruple bogey and shot a 4-under 66 to take the third-round lead in the St. Jude Classic. Phil Mickelson surged into a tie for sixth after a third-round 65. … In Birmingham, Ala., David Frost had a 6-under 66 and a one-stroke lead over Fred Couples after the third round of the Champions Tour’s Regions Tradition.

ETC.: Nogay to be honored at Wingate Awards

Eddie Nogay, the inspirational Fort Hamilton volleyball player who died last week at the age of 18 after a battle with cancer, will be honored tomorrow night by the PSAL as the first-ever recipient of its “Brave Heart” Award during the annual Wingate Awards Dinner at the Brooklyn Marriott.

The NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Iowa Speedway was postponed last night until 10 a.m. CDT today because of rain.

In Montreal, Adonis Stevenson (21-1) stopped Chad Dawson (31-3-0) with a left hook in the first round to take the WBC light heavyweight title.
