Tejada mulling grievance vs. Mets

Ruben Tejada got almost nothing out of 2013 other than a broken right leg.

Now, the shortstop reportedly may file a grievance against the Mets, accusing the team of keeping him in the minors just long enough during the season to push back his free agency by a year.

According to a report from Yahoo! Sports, the 24-year-old is considering a grievance after not being recalled from the minors until Sept. 11.

He was the team’s final September call-up after playing for Triple-A Las Vegas. The move could prevent Tejada from becoming a free agent until after the 2017 season, rather than after 2016, based on service time.

According to the report, the Mets are aware Tejada is thinking of filing the grievance but declined comment, as did Tejada’s representatives.

The Mets have made no secret they are actively looking for a replacement at shortstop and could pursue free agents such as Jhonny Peralta or Stephen Drew.

Tejada had an injury-plagued season and was dreadful at the plate, with an OPS of .519 in 227 plate appearances.
