Apple iPad passes 2 million sales in under 2 months

Apple Inc. has sold more than 2 million of its iPad tablet computers in the less than two months since the product was launched on April 3, the company said Monday.

The Cupertino, Calif., technology giant said that it began selling the iPad this past weekend in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the U.K.

It said the product will be available in nine more countries — Austria, Belgium, Hong Kong, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand and Singapore — in July and more places later this year.

Developers have produced more than 5,000 applications for the iPad and the tablet will run almost all the 200,000 applications in the company’s online store, Apple said.
