FOOTBALL: QB Golson out at Notre Dame

Quarterback Everett Golson is no longer enrolled at Notre Dame.

University spokesman Dennis Brown said last night that Golson, who had three years of eligibility left after not playing as a freshman, was no longer enrolled at Notre Dame as of Friday. Brown said he couldn’t comment on why because of federal privacy laws. The Chicago Tribune, citing two sources, reported that Golson is no longer enrolled at the university because of an academic violation.

MLB: Pagan hits inside-the-park walkoff

In San Francisco, Angel Pagan hit an inside-the-park home run with a runner aboard in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Giants a 6-5 victory over the Rockies.

In Kansas City, Mo., Josh Hamilton homered to back Billy Buckner’s first major league win since 2009, and the Angels beat the Royals 7-0 for their seventh straight victory.

ETC: Openly gay Rogers to Galaxy

Robbie Rogers is joining the Los Angeles Galaxy of MLS in another step by openly gay athletes in professional sports. He told The Associated Press his fears about returning to soccer were eased by the strong support he received from family, fans and players, including Galaxy star Landon Donovan.

In Philadelphia, Derek Maltz scored with 19.2 seconds left to give Syracuse a 9-8 victory over Denver, advancing to tomorrow’s NCAA lacrosse championship against Duke, which beat Cornell 16-14 in the other semifinal.
