Police officer shot, 3 cops injured in upstate New York shoot-out

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – A police officer was shot and three officers injured in a shoot-out Friday near an upstate New York train station.

The suspect was shot and later died in the hospital following the Poughkeepsie, N.Y., incident, The Poughkeepsie Journal reported.

It was not immediately clear what caused the melee but sources said police were investigating whether it was sparked by a domestic dispute. Officers had responded to reports of shots fired in a parking lot near a highway ramp adjacent to the city’s train station.

In the immediate aftermath, police closed surrounding roads, snarling traffic.

At least one train headed for Manhattan was held at the station, which services both Amtrak and Metro-North commuter trains. Poughkeepsie Mayor John Tkazyik said there was no ongoing search for suspects, according to the Journal.

Poughkeepsie is located about 80 miles north of New York City.
