Favors flattered, but wants to stay with Nets

LOS ANGELES — Nets rookie forward Derrick Favors could be one of the more popular players at All-Star Weekend.

The participant in the Rookie-Sophomore Game reportedly is the piece the Nuggets really want as they talk to the Nets about a trade for Carmelo Anthony.

“It’s very cool that they like me, but I can only worry about what I can control,” Favors said Friday.

Favors said no one from Nets management, nor his agent, has talked to him about any imminent trade.

“I really want to be in New Jersey, but I can’t control it,” Favors said.

The Post reported Thursday night the Nets would send Favors, point guard Devin Harris, forward Troy Murphy with his expiring $11.9 million contract, rookie guard Ben Uzoh, and four first-round draft picks to the Nuggets for Anthony, point guard Chauncey Billups, forwards Renaldo Balkman and Shelden Williams, and center Melvin Ely.

Favors has been rumored to be on his way to Denver almost since he arrived in New Jersey.

“At first it was tough but now I’m used to it,” he said.

The third pick in last year’s NBA Draft is averaging 6.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. He does not turn 20 until July.
