Bronx jewelry store owner shoots at man robbing his store: cops

A Bronx jewelry store owner turned the tables on thugs trying to rob his merchandise this afternoon — shooting one of the suspects in the leg, cops said.

The wild scene began shortly before 2 p.m. when the owner of Spinelli & Sons buzzed in a man and a woman to the store on Arthur Avenue.

Then one of the robbers whipped out a gun and ordered the owner, Anthony Spinelli, 49, to take money out of the safe, police sources said.

Instead, Spinelli retrieved his licensed handgun and began firing at the suspects, according to the sources.

The suspects fled out of the store but Spinelli continued after them and firing — hitting a third suspect who was standing by the getaway vehicle, a Cadillac Escalade, cops said.

That man was struck in the left leg and was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition. Charges were pending.

As the man and woman continued running on Arthur Avenue towards Crescent Avenue, two other merchants joined in the fray.

“I just see these people running out of the jewelry store with stuff that didn’t belong to them,” one of the good Samaritans told The Post.

“This is our neighborhood and we protect our neighborhood.

“Our guard was off because right now there should be three dead people on the street.”
