Tracy Morgan, who recently wrapped a long run on “30 Rock,” has inked a deal for an FX sitcom pilot.
The pilot, called “Death Pact,” is scheduled to begin production this summer. Morgan will play a former pot-dealing assistant high school coach who returns to his hometown as a decorated war hero.
While there, he encounters three down-on-their-luck buddies — his former students — and “sucks them into his new radical self-help philosophy, which involves harsh consequences for failure,” according to a series description.
The show is from Rob Long (“Sullivan & Son”) and Tad Safran (“The Long Weekend), who will also write and executive-produce the pilot.
Morgan, 44, played show-within-a-show host Tracy Jordan on NBC’s “30 Rock” for the show’s entire run (2006-2013). He was first introduced to TV viewers on “Saturday Night Live” (1996-2003).
