Would you pay $55 for a donut delivered fresh to your door?

That’s what some hungry New Yorkers are being asked to pay for the food sensation that is the cronut.

The unique treat normally costs $5 and is basically croissant dough fried like a donut.

It is so popular that the first batch baked on the first day it went on sale was gone in 35 minutes.

Since then, Ansel Bakery has enforced a six-cronut limit but the bakery still sells out its daily stock of 200 cronuts by 8 a.m.

Chef Dominique Ansel, named one of the “Top 10 Pastry Chefs in the United States” by Dessert Professional Magazine, is the mastermind behind the must-have pastry which has been the buzz of the food world since it was introduced earlier this month.

“One woman legitimately cried,” Ansel said on Twitter, adding “it is not OK to flip off our baristas because we are out of cronuts.”

With demand so high, and supply so low it comes as no surprise that plucky entrepreneurs have popped up on Craigslist offering to deliver cronuts throughout the five boroughs.

There’s only one catch: you are going to pay a pretty penny.

One ad offers delivery for Friday, May 31st at the following prices per donut:

Manhattan

• $15 (Below 14th St)

• $20 (14th St to 34th St)

• $25 (34th St to 59th St)

• $30 (Above 59th St)

• $35 (Above 110th St)

Brooklyn

• $35 (West of Winthrop St.)

Queens

• $45 (Last stop Jackson Heights)

• $55 (Last stop Forest Hills or Flushing Main St)

Ansel told FoxNews.com that the black market cronuts are a concern, but that he trusts his customers. “Our cronuts remain $5, and we hope to produce more by the day. Hopefully this will give cronut lovers a more affordable and legal way to get cronuts.”
