‘Murder’ gridder’s number is up: interest spikes in Hernandez jerseys

While ex-New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez sits in jail under investigation for murder, his football jerseys are commanding more than $1,000 on eBay.

Former fans of the football star who refuse to own the memorabilia of an accused murderer say they’re shocked to see bidding wars for his jerseys.

“Up for grabs is my husband’s Hernandez jersey that he just had to have for Christmas,” read the product description on a Hernandez Nike jersey that started at 99 cents but was commanding more than $1,000 after 50 bids.

“Starting the bid at .99 because we just want it the *bleep* out of this house,” the post read.

John Lamothe said he expected $15 for the $50 jersey he purchased when Hernandez was a star, but it sold for $289.

“I thought about giving it to Goodwill,” he told the Boston Globe, “but I didn’t think anybody would want it.”
