‘All My Children’ finale to air Sept. 23

LOS ANGELES — The final episode of “All My Children” will air September 23 with some big names returning to the ABC soap opera to say farewell, the network said Thursday.

“Transformers” actor Josh Duhamel and “CSI” star Eva LaRue are among the former cast members returning to pay homage to the show that launched many high-profile Hollywood names. Comedy and Broadway legend Carol Burnett is also set to reprise a role she debuted in 1983 and returned to play in 1995 and 2005.

“The iconic series will end in a manner that respects the show’s legacy and honors its history,” the network promised in a statement.

The network announced the show’s end in April, following a 40-year run. ABC’s other long running daytime drama, “One Life to Live,” will also wrap up in January 2012 after 42 years.

The iconic soaps will be replaced with lifestyle programs including “The Chew,” with hosts including celebrity chef Mario Batali and “What Not to Wear” co-host Clinton Kelly, and “The Revolution,” hosted by “Project Runway” mentor Tim Gunn.
