UWS parental playground brawl

These parents don’t know how to play nice.

Two groups of Upper West Side residents are fighting each other in civil court, with one side saying a local park is a safety hazard and the other accusing the gripers of being “helicopter parents” who always hover over their kids.

Playground 89, on West 89th Street between Columbus and Amsterdam avenues, was designed as an “adventure park,” replete with trees and valleys.

Members of the PTA at PS 166, which uses the playground for recess, secured $600,000 from local officials to flatten the area with asphalt where a handful of kids had suffered falls on the uneven surface.

A group called Landmark West sued, claiming the city was moving to demolish the playground without proper approval.
