Support for Weiner’s mayoral bid goes limp after XXX sexting scandal revealed

Support for Anthony Weiner’s mayoral bid has gone limp following revelations of a new sexting scandal, a poll released today finds.

A record high 55 percent now have an unfavorable view of Weiner compared to 30 percent who like him, according to the NBC4/Wall Street Journal/Marist College survey. That’s a 20 point reversal from a month ago.

And support for Weiner’s candidacy has dropped by more than a third.

Meanwhile, NAACP honcho Hazel Dukes said “enough already” because Weiner’s “freak show” is drowning important issues.

“Weiner should withdraw. We need to hear no more about penises and sex pictures,” said the president of the NAACP’s state chapter.

“I like decency and order. This has become a circus. He’s turned the election into a freak show. We need to get back to issue,” Dukes said.

Dukes’ call for Weiner is a seatback because the raunchy ex-congressman has been polling well in the black community. The Maris Poll today showed Weiner with 20 percent of the vote, second only to Thompson. Last month, he drew 26 percent from blacks, more than any other candidate.

Christine Quinn is the front-runner in the poll with 25 percent backing of likely Democratic primary voters compared to 16 percent for Weiner, 14 percent apiece for Bill Thompson and Bill deBlasio and seven percent for John Liu.

“Weiner has lost his lead and his negatives are at an all-time high,” said Marist pollster Lee Miringoff.

“New York City Democrats were willing to give Anthony Weiner a second chance but are reluctant to excuse his behavior now,” added Miringoff.

Nearly half of city voters – 46 percent – said married Weiner’s continue graphic online sexual exchanges with younger women following his 2011 resignation from Congress for sexting will impact their vote.

Voters are divided over whether he should drop out – 43 percent said he should quit the race and 47 percent said he should stay in.

Nearly three-quarters of respondents said the public backing given to Weiner by his wife, Huma Abedin, will have no impact on their vote.
