Rutgers new AD Hermann reveals she’s gay

Julie Hermann’s bio on Rutgers website acknowledges that she is gay.

The last line reads, “Hermann and her partner Dr. Leslie Danehy are the proud parents of a seven-year old son, Aidan.”

The university updated her bio to include the information and it was not a part of her bio on Louisville’s website, where she served as associate athletic director before coming to Rutgers, according to an ESPN.com report.

“I’m really blessed to have a wonderful family, and we’re excited to become part of the Rutgers community,” Hermann, who was attending Big Ten media days Wednesday and Thursday, told the website.

Rutgers hired Hermann in May to revive the scandal-scarred athletic department after a video of former basketball coach Mike Rice verbally and physically abusing players was televised. Then-AD Tim Pernetti was fired for only giving Rice a three-game suspension after viewing the tape in December.

Hermann, 49, has dealt with controversy since getting the job as it was alleged that she screamed obscenities at players while coaching Tennessee’s volleyball team in the ’90s.
