Tim Tebow’s next career starts in a week.
ESPN announced Monday they have hired the quarterback as an analyst for the SEC Network, which launches in August. He will make his broadcasting debut on Monday before the BCS national title game between Florida State and Auburn.
“I am so excited that ESPN has given me this incredible opportunity,” said Tebow, who won two national championships with Florida.
“When I was six years old I fell in love with the game of football, and while I continue to pursue my dream of playing quarterback in the NFL, this is an amazing opportunity to be part of the unparalleled passion of college football and the SEC.”
Despite that statement, this could signal the Heisman winner’s realization he will not be an NFL quarterback after a four-year saga. Tebow led the Broncos to the playoffs and an upset of the Steelers in the wild-card round in his second season, but was traded to the Jets that offseason after Denver acquired Peyton Manning.
The Jets could find no role for Tebow in their futile offense and waived him after last season. Tebow was signed by the Patriots, but did not make the roster and sat out this season.
Tebow signed a multi-year agreement. His primary role be as an analyst for “SEC Nation,” which will be the network’s version of “College Gameday.” The program will travel to the location of the biggest conference game of the week for a pregame show.
