Bloomberg kid’s ‘pet’ project saves doomed dogs

Mayoral daughter Georgina Bloomberg teamed up with Prince Lorenzo Borghese last weekend to save nearly 200 abandoned and homeless dogs facing a likely death sentence at a shelter in Georgia.

Bloomberg, the youngest daughter of Mayor Bloomberg, helped finance a caravan of 20 volunteers who drove from the New York area Thursday night to save dogs at the shelter in Liberty County, Ga., according to Borghese, a founder of Animal Aid USA.

The caravan returned Sunday night with 185 dogs, most of them headed for adoption in new homes from South Carolina to Maine, said Borghese, an animal advocate also known for his starring role on TV’s “The Bachelor” in 2006.

The shelter does not allow public adoptions and almost all would be killed if not for the rescue caravan, he said.

As many as 50 volunteers have made the monthly 1,600-mile trek to Georgia since Animal Aid USA was founded last year.
