Port Authority chairmen apologize for Bridgegate problems

Chris Christie’s top appointee to the Port Authority apologized Wednesday for the George Washington Bridge traffic mess orchestrated by the New Jersey governor’s inner circle.

“On behalf of the board of commissioners, we are deeply sorry for inconvenience caused to our travelers,” PA board chairman David Samson said regarding the September toll-lane closings ordered by aides to Christie.

But Gov. Cuomo’s top appointee on the bistate board, vice chairman Scott Rechler, went further, saying “some of the members of the Port Authority shut down lanes and put public safety at risk.”

Christie claimed he had no advance knowledge of the lane closings ordered by his top staffers. But Jersey politicos claim the closings were politically motivated because Fort Lee’s Democratic mayor, Mark Sokolich, did not back Christie’s re-election last year.
