SATAN MAY KNEE-D TIME TO HEAL

Miroslav Satan, who aggravated a right knee injury during Tuesday’s loss to Anaheim, will miss tonight’s game against the Penguins.

While he is listed as day-to-day, he could be out for an extended period of time.

“Miro has one of those nagging injuries that could take a couple of days or a couple of weeks to heal,” Ted Nolan said after practice in Syosset yesterday. “We’ll rest him the next couple of days and see how he reacts in Minnesota and re-evaluate them.”

Satan, who will travel to Pittsburgh, had returned to the game against the Ducks, which Nolan blamed himself for.

To take Satan’s place, the Islanders called up Jeremy Colliton from Bridgeport.

The 23-year-old will join an already inexperienced lineup which has recently seen the Isles drop five games in a row, falling from in the middle of the pack of the postseason hunt, to 13th in the Eastern Conference.

“Colliton is a guy who is getting better and better. He deserves an opportunity to come up,” Nolan said.

As Rick DiPietro pointed out after the defeat to the Ducks, the Isles are far from the only team dealing with injury woes. One of those teams is the Penguins, who are without one of the league’s best players, Sidney Crosby, who is out with a sprained ankle.

Unlike the Islanders, however, the Penguins haven’t plummeted in the standings without their star. Of course, it helps that the Penguins have another stellar offensive player in Evgeni Malkin.
