Giants snag new QB coach, Oregon State’s Danny Langsdorf

It figured when Ben McAdoo was hired as the Giants offensive coordinator, he would be able to bring in coaches he was familiar with to fill out the offensive staff. That is the case, as Danny Langsdorf, the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Oregon State, has been hired as the Giants’ new quarterbacks coach.

Langsdorf, 41, worked for the Saints from 2002-04. McAdoo was hired by then-Saints offensive coordinator Mike McCarthy in 2004, so Langsdorf and McAdoo spent one year together in New Orleans. Langsdorf replaces Sean Ryan, who, as previously speculated, will be reassigned on Tom Coughlin’s staff.

Just like that, Langsdorf gets to work directly with Eli Manning, a two-time Super Bowl MVP, who in 2013 endured his worst NFL season, tossing an NFL-high 27 interceptions. Co-owner John Mara described the offense as “broken,” and there’s no doubt Manning also is in need of some repair.

Langsdorf spent 11 years at Oregon State, the past nine running the Beavers’ offense and also tutoring their quarterbacks. According to Rivals.com, Oregon State had the most diverse offense in the nation in the decade of the 2000s. An Oregon native, Langsdorf was a quarterback at Boise State and Linfield College. In 2007, he donated one of his kidneys to the wife of the Oregon State offensive line coach.

In a remarkable coincidence, the kidney was donated to Laurie Cavanaugh, the wife of offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh.  Laurie Cavanaugh is the daughter of Kevin Gilbride, the former Giants offensive coordinator, who retired following this season after 10 years with the Giants.

It appears as if the Giants’ coaching staff makeover is complete. They have a new offensive coordinator, a new quarterbacks coach and a new running backs coach, Craig Johnson.
