Yankees’ Cervelli to address PED report next week

TAMPA — Francisco Cervelli said he is not “running away” from his ties to the anti-aging clinic that is being investigated by Major League Baseball for providing performance-enhancing drugs to players.

“I’m not running away from you guys,” the Yankees catcher told a group of reporters outside the team’s minor league complex yesterday. “I’m not scared or anything. I’ll talk to you guys when camp starts.”

On Wednesday, Cervelli had declined further comment when approached, and apologized for that yesterday.

He already admitted Tuesday to having a connection to Biogenesis after his name appeared in records obtained by Yahoo! Sports, saying on Twitter that his only association with the clinic came after a foot injury in 2011 and he was certain he didn’t use any banned substances.

“That’s all I’ve got to say right now,” Cervelli said, referring to his previous statement, adding he would address the media the day of the first workout for pitchers and catchers, which is Feb. 13. “I’m gonna talk to you guys on the 13th when the spring starts, for sure.”

Cervelli will be competing for the starting catching spot with Austin Romine and Chris Stewart.
