Nate Berkus — the only Oprah protegé to flop in daytime TV — has landed a job in primetime.
Berkus, a designer with a batch of best-selling books and a small but devoted following, will host a new NBC series, tentatively called “Home Transformers,” The Post has learned.
Home makeover shows have been out of fashion on primetime TV — which has otherwise loved shows about the domestic arts, like cooking and child-raising — since the cancellation several years ago of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”
“Home Transformer” is billed as a competition-reality show — but unlike most of that type of show, it will feature professionals, not amateurs.
According to cast notices, the show wants “to find America’s best home designers, builders, decorators and craftsmen.”
The pros will be split into teams and “over the course of the series, they will rebuild and transform rundown homes across America.”
With Oprah’s backing, Berkus launched a syndicated daytime show in 2010.
But unlike her earlier spin-offs, Dr. Phil, Rachael Ray and Dr. Oz, Berkus’s show never found an audience and was canceled halfway through its second year.
He is on a comeback already — with a two-part Oprah interview set next month.
