Active volcanoes are rare, but four active volcanoes erupting within 110 miles of one another is something worth documenting — which is exactly what a team of Russian photographers did, according to Spiegel.com.
But the clever Russians not only photographed the amazing sights on the Kamchatka peninsula, in Russia’s far east, they also attached a 360-degree camera to the outside of one of their choppers to create an amazing interactive virtual volcano tour.
The crew spent three days photographing and filming while battling air temperatures that dipped as low as -13 degrees Fahrenheit and wind gusts up to 34 mph. The four volcanoes that were erupting at the same time are fed from four separate sources of magma, the paper reports.
The combination of the volcanoes close proximity yet separate origins made the event extremely rare.
