Jets shakeup staff; Rex’s brother reportedly headed to Saints

Rex Ryan completed the bulk of his overhaul of the Jets coaching staff yesterday with a host of moves — but he did not hire twin brother Rob Ryan, who will become defensive coordinator of the Saints, according to ESPN.

That the Jets did not name a linebackers coach sparked speculation they could be the landing spot for Rob, sacked by the Cowboys after last season.

The Jets recently interviewed former Browns linebackers coach Bill Davis for the same position.

Of the moves that were made, offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo is out after just one season with Gang Green.

DeGuglielmo, who made waves with his colorful comments, had been rumored to depart for several weeks. Tight ends coach Mike Devlin will move over to replace DeGuglielmo, and former Browns tight ends coach Steve Hagen was hired to fill Devlin’s spot.

DeGuglielmo, a former Giants aide who accompanied since-fired offensive coordinator Tony Sparano to the Jets from the Dolphins last year, was expendable after Gang Green allowed 47 sacks and averaged just 3.8 yards per carry (23rd in the league).

Ryan also hired former Jets punter Louie Aguiar as assistant special teams coach. Aguiar will be the aide to new special teams coordinator Ben Kotwica, who was named last month to replace the retiring Mike Westhoff.

The Jets also hired former NFL lineman Ron Heller as Devlin’s assistant, Pierre Ngo to be the assistant strength and conditioning coach and brought back Jeff Weeks to be the assistant defensive line coach and assistant linebackers coach.

Weeks, a longtime friend of Ryan’s, coached for the Jets from 2009-2011.
